Weight loss and oxidative stress

A poor diet, irregular sleep, stimulants, or overloading the body with excessive physical activity or mental distress are just some of the factors that can potentially disrupt the balance of numerous biochemical and physiological mechanisms in the body. Many of these disorders are caused by the weakened ability of cells to, for example, neutralise free radicals, which are known to contribute to the generation of oxidative stress.

This type of stress impairs, among other things, the immunity and activity of important regulatory systems, including the endocrine and nervous systems. As it turns out, it can also be a factor hindering weight loss. Weakened antioxidant protection has a significant impact on health, and certain links have been identified, e.g. with diabetes, atherosclerosis and cancer. These disorders can undoubtedly slow down the rate of progress in the weight loss process.

Green tea and oxidative stress

The biologically active substances naturally present in green tea are among the strongest known plant-based antioxidants. These include theanine, caffeine, chlorophyll, but also characteristic catechins. There are an increasing number of publications on the effects of both tea extracts and its individual chemical compounds on various pathophysiological mechanisms.

It is worth noting that these compounds may not only support antioxidant protection, but also modulate mood and mental energy levels throughout the day. Furthermore, it has been observed that green tea has not only a direct but also an indirect effect on the body. It can influence the composition of the gut microbiota and the growth of beneficial bacteria that reduce oxidative stress.

The results of scientific studies involving overweight people indicate the effect of green tea on weight reduction. However, it is also worth noting all the health-promoting aspects of the extracts from this plant and specific chemical compounds.

Weight loss is not as simple a process as it may sometimes seem, and it is worth taking care to optimise your health at every stage, including antioxidant protection and gut microbiota. Green tea compounds can be particularly important for people who are very physically active, have difficulty coping with stress, and those with glycaemic and/or lipid disorders.
